My Spring Break

Posted in Miscellany by Simon Ferrari on March 13, 2009

For my spring break I get to come up with a thesis topic and proofread this for the 2nd edition:

pgames

The hardest things for me to catch are going to be errors of fact (I’m a grammar Nazi). So if anybody remembers reading this and being confused by an example or getting angry because your favorite game had been explained poorly, please tell me!

I hadn’t even heard of this, which just goes to show how much of a dork I am.

It’s kind of a dork’s fantasy book… at least my kind of dork. Lots of people find Ian’s writing stuffy, but the dude studied comparative lit, classics, and philosophy (exactly what I studied, minus my film degree). Half of it is pretty strictly only relatable to political, serious, or art games. But the general theory is applicable across the board. It’s great reading if you want to get better at writing about the actual coding or simulation design of games.

Your fans notice you’re playing a lot of ranked matches in Dawn of War 2. This makes them jealous. Hopefully they will be building a powerful computer so that they can play matches of DOW 2 against you. Your fans also want more posts, Spring Break be damned!

Man I’m running DOW2 on my Mac. On the lowest possible settings to avoid server lag and the inevitable “ALT F4 you fucking nub” taunts that come along with it.

I want you to get it, not so we can play against each other but so that I can do the team battles with somebody I know. After 12 matches, I finally figured out that the Marines are only good when backed up by another player. I kept screwing our team by thinking I could hold a location by myself.

I wrote a post for you, entitled Tha Carter 3rd Wave Feminism. It’s my first music post. Maybe I’ll send it to PopMatters. LOL; TJK.

Yeah, co-op RTS play sounds… intimidating. I’m already so bad, the thought of inflicting myself on my teammates seems cruel. But I love Dawn of War, and I’m all for giving it a shot (as soon as I can).
